Great atmosphere, better food. Went in with the kids and they were very accommodating with dinner choices for them. This would be ideal if looking for a nice dinner out with your your significant other, but if the kids are along you can enjoy just the same..The bar area separated from the dinning area with a glass partition offers the best of both worlds without disturbing the ambiance of the dinning room... Very welcoming and professional staff, a must if your downtown T.C.

For being brand new, I thought the atmosphere, service and food were all pretty good. The server shared with us that when things are up and running, Sorellina will be making pasta from scratch, so I look forward to returning for that. You can't find risotto on the menus of most Italian restaurants in TC, so that's a nice offering. He called it a side dish, but the portion was big enough for an entree. The chicken piccata was excellent; juicy, lots of capers and shallot - the way it's supposed to be. Being part of Harrington's I'm not surprised at the level of detail or the amount of attention spent to make sure the customers are satisfied. Worth trying.

This is the first time we have had dinner here. Two On The Town brought us in. We were seated promptly with a great seat next to the windows. We started with a nice drink off the cocktail menu that was made with St. Germaine. Not to many places use this ingredient which is very classy. Started with mussels for appetizer an a complimentary warm bread to dip in a mixture of olive oil fresh parm, balsamic reduction and was offered more when finished. Very nice addition to our meal. We ordered Veal Saltimbuco and the beef tenderloin over morel mushroom risotto. The veal came with a beautiful flower and was delicately topped with fresh grated parm from our waiter. Beef tenderloin was also offered with fresh parm and cracked pepper from out waiter. The mussel appetizer was very good and came with toasted slices of bread to soak up all of the broth. Very good and nice portion size. The veal was rolled with the sage and wrapped in procuitto and served with the most flavorful sauce over a bed of linguini. The beef tenderloin was ordered rare and was perfectly done. Every bite melted in your mouth. The risotto was unfortunately mis matched for this dish and did not have morel mushrooms. I would have preferred to see it over a bed of potatoes or a veg. The rice just didn't work with the meat. Our waiter was very tentative and polite. They did not punch our card so we could return throughout the month for another meal. Very nice touch. Kiddos to the Chef and also the front of the house manager who also checked in with us. Lovely experience.

First of all... Sorellina is open on Sundays. I was surprised how many restaurants are not open in TC. They have great happy hour appetizers... Try the bruschetta it was delish! I love the house salad, the citrus dressing had a ton of flavor and very light. The pasta looked really good especially the meatballs! The bartenders were great and my wine glass was never empty! Cheers!!

Came for dinner tonight with my dad and step mom- I'm only back in Michigan until tomorrow and we managed to find a night to meet before I headed back to the south. I was excited to be seated by the fireplace (it is just too cold here. Too. Cold) at a cozy table after being greeted by a friendly host. It was actually pretty busy for a Thursday, but it is, after all, right downtown and there's something kind of charming about roaming Front Street in the snowy winter. I had the swordfish (accompanied by spinach and topped with capers / tomatoes) while Dad got a sausage pasta and Mona the chicken alfredo. I tried everything, and it was all solid. My swordfish was good but maybe could have had a bit more ooomphhh. I've been eating popcorn and terrible things this past day (went to the movies with my mom earlier) so maybe a hearty fish that doesn't clog my arteries with salt is just what I needed. A cute thing about Sorrelina is the olive oil dish they bring you with pesto and balsamic, in a little "S" shape. The pillows along the wood bench by the fire also don the "S" monogram. All around, cuteness.

Nancy K's 7/8/2014 review is for Stella not this place, Sorellina. Big difference. Sorellina is OK and your kids will probably like it but the food execution isn't up to par with a 4 star yelp rating. The risotto that was recommended was thick and dry and the mushroom flavor was off. I prefer creamy risotto that is (at least) finished to order. This was clearly made earlier in the day. My daughter's chicken parmesan was just ok and my husband like his pistachio-crusted salmon but the polenta it was served on looked like the fine-grain cornmeal sold in a tube, not the creamy polenta I prefer. Like I said, this place is OK but there are so many fantastic restaurants in the region, I don't think Sorellina deserves 4 starts.

Very good. Sit or dine in the bar area for smaller portions and prices. I had spinach dip, and the ravioli with sage. Their bread dipping oil is yummy, dangerzone. I'd come again. Good service & nice atmosphere.

Went here for dinner on a Monday night with a few coworkers. We sat in their "Lounge" (bar area) because they have all-day happy hour in there (but not in the dining room). The lounge has televisions and had on both the Tigers game and Monday night football... Service and food were both very good. I got the flourless chocolate cake for dessert and it was amazing, and I practically licked the plate clean. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars? The lounge area was FILLED with fruit flies. Not exactly what I what flying around my face during dinner. I know they're in season right now, but they also make traps that you can buy on amazon for $5.

The service and food were average for the price point. Enjoyed the swordfish but the carbonara was lackluster. Waitstaff was inexperienced and unprepared for fine dining.

We went there for a late dinner. We had a hankering for spaghetti and meatballs and this fit the bill. The order came out pretty quick so I'm assuming the pasta is fresh made because the stuff that sits in water waiting to be served gets mushy and this wasn't. The sauce was good but not seasoned much. The meatballs were good but not great again, because of under-seasoning. The server was older than the others and really good. Attentive, not pushy and jovial but classy. We had to make it a quick dinner because it was LOUD in there. One table in particular but many tables were all loud and the same from the bar so while it might list "romantic" on the ambience, I don't consider not hearing your dinner companion at the same table particularly romantic and I'm not going to yell to keep up with others who clearly excel at it.

WOW. Fantastic food. Fresh bread with delicious oil dip. Superb house salad. My veal picatta with linguine was the tastiest and most tender I've ever had. My husband had clams and he almost drank the leftover sauce. Service was great too. A must for anyone who loves food!

Date night on a Friday, and looking to try someplace new, brought us to Sorellina. Like the ambience. It is much larger inside than it appears from the street. Good drinks, nice wines. We weren't in the mood for full-on entrees, so we had antipasti to start, salad course, and then shared the antipasti beef tenderloin carpaccio and the scampi. Pros: Hands-down, the La Sorellina salad was the rock-star of the meal. The house bread with dipping (olive) oil, herbs and balsamic vinegar reduction was fantastic. Cons: The carpaccio flavor was fine, but the slices were not thin-enough, resulting in very chewy, soggy slices of rare meat. If you've ever had a razor-thin slice of carpaccio... you know what I'm talking about! The scampi tasted of wine that wasn't reduced enough, and needed salt & pepper. Will we go again? Yes. Our first experience warranted another meal here. We see the potential, and hope that the kitchen can deliver in full.

Happy hour all day by the bar! The cherry Crispin drink tastes like cherry Capri sun! And $3 well drinks is worth the trip! Wonderful service but dishes start around $20 per person.

Yum! We were unbelievably lucky to get a same day reservation on valentines day. Our dinner date was fantastic. The food was unbelievable and the ambiance was adorable. It is definitely not a quiet restaurant, but it is still very romantic. The service is a little slower then your typical restaurant, but they seem to just be giving you time to enjoy your night. I would highly recommend this delicious place to eat

I've been looking forward to eating here for quite some time and finally went here a week or so ago with three friends. The food was excellent--I had the risotto with saffron and though the saffron flavor could have been more intense, the rice was cooked to perfection. I also ordered the shrimp appetizer to have alongside the rice and it was a wonderful combination. My dinner companions had salads and soup which they all said were excellent as well. My only complaint: it took forever to get our drinks. I usually like to order a drink to sip while I look at the menu . . . instead, we ordered drinks, then dinner and only had a very few minutes to consume our drinks before our dinner arrived, so I ended up having my drink WITH my dinner. Not the way I like to do it. Our waitress was friendly but not attentive. We asked for bread when we ordered our drinks and it didn't get put on the table until after our dinners had already been served. The place was not busy so there was nothing we could see to explain why she disappeared for long periods of time. I'll go back because the food was so good, but this restaurant needs to more thoroughly train their wait staff if they want to succeed in Traverse City . . . there is so much competition out there for our dining dollars and I would much rather put up with mediocre food with excellent service than the other way around.

This was our second visit to this great new addition to Downtown TC. Gotta admit our first visit (soon after they opened) was a slightly underwhelming (albeit expectations were high). Thought we'd wait awhile and head back. Glad we did! They are now up to speed all the way around and have matched their sister restaurant (Harrington's) with both quality and service. Their homemade bread (same as Harrington's) was fresh, warm with just the right amount of crunch on the crust. It is served here with oil, balsamic, basil and with some sea salt(?) mixed in--a welcome difference from the typical oil dipping plate for bread. Last night I enjoyed their house with spinach, walnuts, pears and house vinaigrette. It hit the mark for being light but with robust flavor. My pasta with their homemade italian sausage was perfect with a delicate spiciness. My daughter's fettucine alfredo was the best ever in TC. The sauce had a nice full flavor and melt in your mouth texture. The chicken parmesan was very tender with a subtle crunch with the breading. The meatballs were out this world. Can you tell I tried everyone's meal!? Excellent wine-list. Had a lovely Toscana blend for $30. Looking forward to our next visit!

First time here last night and we were very disappointed. My expectations were high based on other's reviews but the dining experience turned out to be very ordinary. Service was above average, but food was nothing special. I had the salmon and it was oily and fishy. My wife had the chicken Parmesan and it was nothing special - Olive Garden has better. Although they weren't busy, they sat us along a bench seat that was right on top of another couple. One appetizer, two salads and two entrées and the bill with tip was $94. Far too expensive for this type of experience.

Tried several times to dine at Sorellina, but it was so packed (and too warm inside during the summer), that it took until last week for me to finally get in to dine. The restaurant is roomy, with nicely spaced tables, which I like. My waitress was very helpful and patient, especially since I had to wait a half hour for my dining companion to join me. I loved the warm mini loaf of herbed bread (Italian?) that came with oil, herbs and a cool streak of a balsamic reduction, very, very yummy! The shrimp cocktail was fresh and cool with homemade cocktail sauce. The cocktail sauce was good, but nothing special, just a traditional cocktail sauce. Actually could have used a little bite of some sort. The "Ai Funghi," mushroom risotto with morel, cremini and porcini mushrooms was very good, creamy and a perfect consistency. A glass of Chianti was my companion throughout the meal, which I topped off with the biggest piece of Tiramisu I've ever been served. And it was excellent, a bit on the boozy side, but that was a plus, not a minus! Can't wait to go back again!

I'm from Chicago and I love Italian food!! This place met my high standards! First off I think they put crack in their bread and olive oil mixture that they start you off with! Skip appetizers and salad....this is all you need before dinner! I got the chicken Parmesan and it was perfect! The marinara isn't anything to write home about...but the chicken was the main star. Then my sister got the pasta with porcini cream and Gorgonzola...too die for. Very rich...but worth the calories! My parents love their spaghetti and meatballs! My husband didn't care too much for the pasta with the sausage...lots of fennel and he isn't a fan. We went in the middle if January on a Saturday and had to wait about 15 minutes. So I recommend making reservations! Great addition to downtown Traverse City...can't wait to go back!

We didn't actually eat here due to some uncontrollable circumstances, but the owner was incredible in aiding our group to make everything work out for us. Next time I'm in TC, I will definitely try it out.

Excellent meal. The atmosphere was lively and inviting and we were never without a full drink. Sorellina knows Italian dishes and spices. Some of the best Italian I have ever had.

My wife and I decided to try Sorellina on a Saturday evening at dinner hour. We fully expected to have to wait to get a table, but were pleasantly surprised when we were seated immediately even though they were busy. The interior was nicely decorated, tables spaced well, and a warm and inviting atmosphere. Service was prompt and attentive, orders taken and food arrived on time. I had the chicken Alfredo, it was saucy and good, pasta just right with plenty of chicken. My wife had the red snapper, also well prepared and tasty. We asked for a Caeser salad between us which our waiter Georgio kindly offered to split. Water and coffee were replentished as needed, and the owner made the rounds to make sure everything was good. And it was. Thanks for a great dining experience Sorellina, we'll be back.

Delicious food from a very cute restaurant. We shared the caprese. My home made sausage pasta was delicious, as was the gorgonzola spinach pasta. Try the rossini for your drink.

This is a really wonderful Italian restaurant, I went there with my girlfriend and I tried a perfect chief's special of the day. I don't know the exact name of it, but it is made of a tasty fish, shells, and two or three little cuttlefish. I will definitely go there again next time. You have to try it!!!

I loved this place so much, that I went 2 days in a row! The bruschetta was the best I've ever had. The bread was toasted to the perfect texture for biting. Crisp but not hard. The burst of fresh flavors was amazing. My husband had the veal shank which he kindly let me sample. Tender, juicy and delicious! My daughter had eggplant parmesan which I didn't sample because she ate every bite! My other daughter and I both ordered Picatta, mine veal, hers chicken. Both where tender and flavorful. The only shortcoming was that both picattas required a little more sauce for the pasta. A simple fix. Someone brought us more immediately. Wonderful atmosphere and our waiter, George, an authentic Sicilian, was attentive, alert, very experienced and happy to please. We can't wait to try the all-day happy hour!!!

I've eaten here a few times, but no more. The atmosphere, wait staff and host were all great. The beers on tap were...average. The wine selection was solid. But the food, the crux of a restaurant, leaves much to be desired. The most recent and last time I'll eat there, I ordered veal saltimbocca and what showed up was a chewy, dry, under-seasoned piece of veal with a few tiny sprigs of sage. There was about a 1/4-inch high pool of butter to accompany the noodles the veal sat atop. When the waitress asked how everything was, I expressed my concerns but insisted on paying for things as I don't believe much in comped meal items -- because who knows, maybe I'm wrong. She nearly runs to the back of the house to get the manager (Josh? John?), who comes to our table with his arms crossed and a tone like I had insulted someone he cares about. He becomes visibly agitated and rude that I would think my cut of veal was cooked incorrectly and finds no fault in the massive pool of butter. I try to disarm the situation by mentioning that the gellato was amazing, to no avail. The only concession he's willing to make is to comp the dish, but I continue to insist on paying for it and express that I was only trying to leave some feedback. It felt as if he had personally prepared the dish and was angry that someone might not like it. In the most defensive way possible, he counters every complaint I have with what was essentially, "that's how it is, you obviously don't know what you're talking about." It was the most uncomfortable, aggressive experience I've ever had in a Traverse City restaurant and I will never return because of it. I don't expect a big "thank you" when I have a complaint, but I have never seen such an unprofessional response from a restaurant manager.

The Lemon Love is delicious. They will split plates if you share. The dressing on the fig salad was amazing. If you like a little spice the spaghetti and meatballs were delicious. Server rushed us a bit.

I don't get to eat at many Italian restaurants other than chains, so my review might be a little skewed. I thought this was one of most excellent meals I've had in a long time. They have a good, though not large, selection of a variety of Italian dishes. Good selection of antipasti too. My friends had the minestrone soup and I think it was homemade, not something purchased from a wholesaler. There was a minor confusion regarding the bill, but it was resolved quickly.

After a bit of a shaky transition from waiting at the bar to ordering entrees, our visit to Sorellina turned into an excellent experience. While waiting 25 minutes for a table (precisely the expected wait time), I had a martini at the bar and my wife and I shared bruschetta. The martini (a call) was shaken, with just enough ice chips, and was smooth and refreshing. The brushetta was bursting with freshness and flavor. When we moved to the dining room, it took a while for someone to take our order; this was due to a miscommunication, as a manager had told our waitress someone else would cover our table. Nobody covered, but Charlotte came back and apologized (and brought some chocolate dessert after dinner), and the only reason I mention this gaffe is to point out how seriously they took the matter. We ordered two dinners and some wine. Everything arrived in due time and was outstanding. My wife spilled some of her wine and Charlotte brought another full glass. We both agreed the entrees were nicely prepared, well portioned, and tasty. Only one minor disappointment: most fine restaurants provide some kind of bread or snack while waiting for the main course. I realize the appetizers can suffice, but a few bread sticks would be nice.

Terrific place. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, relaxed and funny. The food was delicious! We started with myself a salad and my boyfriend got ravioli off the appetizer menu. The waiter made sure to tell him it was just one big ravioli, but it was very good, says my boyfriend. Our dinners were excellent and the presentation was beautiful. It was very expensive! About $90 for the two of us and that included two drinks each.

This restaurant claims to be "authentic" Italian, but it was far from it. The food is obviously some prepackaged Gordon Food Service or something like that (although they claim to have an Italian chef, he's probably sitting in the corner crying). I ordered Chicken Parmigiano, $18, it was definitely not prepared with a fresh chicken breast, it was something like you'd get in the frozen dinner section at your grocery store. My husband ordered Veal Piccata, $24, it didn't come with a side of pasta - we were charged $6 for a "kid's spaghetti." After dinner, my husband asked for a cappuccino but they only serve plain old coffee and not good coffee at that. Are you kidding me - an "authentic" Italian restaurant that doesn't offer cappuccino? We also ordered a cannoli for dessert, it took forever for some reason, and it was hard as a rock. The waitress saw our dissatisfaction with the dessert and offered to take it off the bill, we declined because we just wanted to get out of there. Spend your money elsewhere. Dinner for two was almost $80. Don't waste your money here, there are many other nice restaurants in Traverse City.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
